What is a Physiatrist?
Physiatrists do not perform surgery. They offer a broad spectrum of medical services focusing on restoring patients to their maximum function. There are many problems that involve all the major systems of the body which the Physiatrist may administer injections, prescribe medications or assistive devices, such as a brace or artificial limb. They also use diverse therapies such as heat, cold, electrotherapies, massage, biofeedback, traction, and therapeutic exercise.
Because the physiatrist is concerned with all areas of rehabilitation-social, vocational, and medical-the quality of life is significantly increased for patients.
